Do You Recommend Babies Get Their Spines Checked?
Yes. A majority of spinal problems seen in adults can begin as early as birth. Pressure on delicate nerves in the early stages of life can potentially irritate the nervous system (which includes your brain, spinal cord and nerves that run throughout the body). Since the nervous system is one of the major control systems of the body, the resulting irritation can potentially cause complications such as: colic, breathing difficulties, nursing problems, ear infections, or reflux.
Many parents are utilizing chiropractic care for their newborns to ensure a healthy expression of the powerful nervous system in their child.
What About Toddlers?
At this stage of life as children are up and down, crawling, standing on wobbly legs, falling, etc., chiropractic care is beneficial to maintain a healthy spinal column. The importance of correcting any spinal misalignment (subluxations) continues as the repeated trauma impacts the child’s growing spine. Any interference to the vital nerve supply that subluxations create can negatively affect the body’s ability to function at it’s best.
When Should My Child Be Checked?
Since many subluxations result during the birth process, it’s important to get your child’s spine checked right after they are born. Even the most natural birth can be very difficult on a baby’s spine. The resulting nervous system pressure may show up as symptoms such as- colic, reflux, asthma and/or ear infections. Having a chiropractor check your child’s spine early to correct subluxations can help them have a better quality of life and health.
Will The Adjustment Hurt?
Not at all. The pressure used to correct subluxations in infants and children is much less that what is used for adults. In many cases, only fingertip pressure is applied to adjust the spine of little ones. Most babies can sleep right through it and most older children can’t wait to hop on the table for their turn!
